Reserve Chaplain Tom Haan thanked the Mayor and City Council for their support and proclamation at the City Council meeting last night to recognize May 11-17, 2024 as National Police week in Kalama. He discussed the impacts of service on the Law Enforcement Officers (LEO) and urged the community to continue to support their local forces. The Chaplains are part of the support network for these officers.

The Kalama Planning Commission will hold a public hearing during their May 9, 2024 meeting at 6:00pm regarding the Port of Kalama major modification to the boundaries of the Spencer Creek Plan. During police week, we are holding a candlelight vigil In honor of the fallen Law Enforcement Officers nationwide in 2023, but in particular our Cowlitz County fallen law enforcement officers. This event is open to the public. Candles will be provided.
Parking: Carpooling and overflow parking in downtown and W. Frontage Rd. is strongly encouraged (access the Port of Kalama using the footbridge)
Event hosts: This event is hosted by the Port of Kalama and the Kalama Police Department, sponsored by the Cowlitz County Chaplaincy and the Cowlitz Association of Sheriff and Police Chiefs (CASPC).

The Kalama Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee is accepting applications to fill an open position. The application period is open now until May 22, 2024. The position is open for applicants that live in Kalama, but reside outside city limits. The committee meets once per month on the 2nd Tuesday @ 5:30pm at the City Council Chambers (with a virtual attendance option through Zoom as well).
