Just a few more days until Fourth of July festivities!! Historically, much of our community heads down to the Port of Kalama for a fun-filled day of cookouts, fireworks, and cooling off in the river. The shuttle service provided by the City of Kalama this year is intended to alleviate some of the unsafe parking and roadway obstructions we routinely see at the Port of Kalama on the Fourth of July (pictured below from previous years). It is imperative that first responders can get emergency vehicles and apparatus into the area if/when needed, and that we avoid head-on traffic hazards.
Violators parking over fog lines, in areas clearly marked no parking, or otherwise obstructing the flow of traffic will be subject to tow at the owner's expense. Feel free to drop off family members, coolers, etc, and seek appropriate parking or make use of the FREE shuttle service provided (visit the City of Kalama's web page and Facebook posts for more details).
Help us Help you! See you at Kalama Summer Lights on the Fourth!

🎆Fireworks season is here🎆— that special time of year when we celebrate the birth of our nation. Every year we respond to dozens of complaints of illegal and improper fireworks use and property damage caused by careless use of fireworks. Firefighters and emergency medical personnel also respond to numerous fireworks related fires and injuries. Please be thoughtful and careful with your fireworks use this year. It is a season to celebrate, but it is also an opportunity for everyone to be good neighbors and considerate of others.
FIREWORKS LAWS and SUGGESTIONS
According to Washington state law and the Kalama Municipal Code, fireworks may be used at the following times:
• June 28 from noon to 11:00 p.m.
• June 29 thru July 4 from 9:00am to 11:00pm
• July 5 from 9:00am to 9:00pm
• Dec. 31 from 6:00pm to Jan. 1 at 1:00am
Please be considerate of other residents when using fireworks, especially late in the evenings, around animals, or anyone that could be adversely affected by explosions and loud noises.
Remember, fireworks users are responsible for any property damage that may result from their use of the fireworks.
Never discharge fireworks at other persons, livestock, or pets.
Never discharge fireworks at vehicles or from moving vehicles.
Clean up all fireworks debris.
Alcohol consumption and fireworks use are a dangerous mix!
Children should always be supervised around fireworks.
Thanks!

SCAM ALERT: The "Microsoft" Tech Support Scam 🖥️📞
Have you ever seen a pop-up on your computer that says “⚠️ Your system is infected — call Microsoft immediately”? That’s a scam.
Here’s how it works:
👨💻 Scammers create fake pop-ups that look like real Microsoft alerts. They’ll freeze your screen and display an urgent message claiming your computer is infected or compromised.
📞 The message provides a fake phone number to call for “Microsoft Support.” But here’s the catch — Microsoft will never put their support number in a pop-up.
💬 Once you call, the scammer pretends to be a tech expert. They’ll:
• Ask to remote into your computer
• Claim they found "viruses" or "hackers"
• Pressure you to pay hundreds for fake repairs or software
• Sometimes even install real malware to hold your system hostage
⚠️ And if you Google “Microsoft support,” you may still end up calling a scammer — because they buy ads and manipulate search results to trick you into calling fake phone numbers.
✅ Protect yourself:
• Never call numbers from pop-ups or random websites
• Microsoft will never lock your screen or ask you to call them like this
• Close the browser with Ctrl + Alt + Delete if needed
• If in doubt, take your computer to a trusted local tech
👊 Stay sharp, Kalama! If something doesn’t feel right, it probably isn’t.

Each year, hundreds of names of officers killed in the line of duty are engraved on the walls of the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, DC. These names are then read aloud during the annual Candlelight Vigil to memorialize those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
During Police Week 2025, there will be a candlelight vigil In honor of the fallen Law Enforcement Officers nationwide in 2024, but in particular our Cowlitz County fallen law enforcement officers. This event is open to the public. Come unite as one community in solidarity and support of your Kalama police officers and Cowlitz County Law Enforcement.
Candles will be provided.
Event hosts: This event is hosted by the City of Longview and the Longview Police Department, sponsored by the Cowlitz County Chaplaincy and the Cowlitz Association of Sheriff and Police Chiefs (CASPC).
