The City contracts with Waste Control in Kelso, Washington for garbage service. Generally speaking, your garbage will be picked up on the day specified - holiday or not - 365 days a year. The only possible exceptions will be around the Christmas and New Year holidays.
For the majority of residences in Kalama, garbage is picked up on Monday. It is recommended that customers put their garbage carts out Sunday evening.
Downtown businesses and China Garden Road north of Date Street are picked up on Thursday, so these customers should have their carts out Wednesday evening.
Residences on N. Second Street north of Juniper Street, and Holly Blvd, Maple Lane, and Huckleberry Lane are picked up on Friday and customers should place their carts out Thursday evening.
Waste Control trucks are equipped with metal extensions that pick up the carts and empty them into the rear of the truck. For this reason, it is important that garbage not be stuffed into the cart (otherwise the cart may not empty fully), Place the cart so the top opening is toward the street and ensure vehicles or other obstacles are away from the cart to allow access for the garbage truck. Please make sure the lid lays flat on the cart, otherwise you may be charged an extra unit charge, which is currently $5.79.
What to do if Your Garbage is Missed - If for some reason your cart is missed, please contact Kiley Mirenta or call (360) 673-4554 in the Utility Department. The City will contact Waste Control and your cart will be emptied within 48 hours of the phone call.
Going on Vacation? If you are going to be gone for two consecutive weeks or more, contact the City before you leave. If contacted, the City will prorate the garbage charge on your next bill.
Need a Different Size Cart? If you live within the City limits, email Kiley Mirenta or call (360) 673-4554 for all cart exchanges.
