Become a Friend of the Library

Friends of the Library at Kalama (FOLK) 

 a non-profit, charitable group formed to support the Kalama Public Library

Mission 

Our mission as FOLK is to highlight the importance of the Kalama Public Library via special programs, community involvement, and outreach endeavors.

Through our fundraising efforts, FOLK is able to provide monies for the purchase of new books, support the Library's Storytime and Summer Reading Program, and to help fund other needs the library may have.  Our main fundraising effort is our Book Sales.

FOLK Meetings

FOLK meets every month, on the 1st Monday at 1:00 pm in the City Council Chambers at the Kalama Library, located at 320 N. First Street.  Everyone is welcome to attend. See calendar for dates.

Volunteer 

Each of our members finds ways to volunteer time and energy in meaningful ways to help the library staff and support connections between our library, other libraries, and our community.

Folk Activities

  • FOLK Book Sales: Used book sales held every other month in January, March, May, July, September, and November. See calendar for upcoming dates. All proceeds benefit the Kalama Public Library.

  • Supporting the Kalama Public Library's Reading Readiness Program:

    • Storytime for Children: Stories, songs, rhymes, movement, and fun! Kid-sized for ages up to 5 years old, but everyone is welcome.

    • Summer Reading Program: School children are given the opportunity for adventure and fun through reading challenges, fun activities, and connections.  Kids are given more time to explore reading and the library.

Folk Outreach

Little Libraries provide books for five Little Libraries located at: 

  • Toteff Park, 175 S 1st St, Kalama

  • Atomic Cafe, 724 NE Frontage Rd, Kalama

  • Stone Forest Neighborhood Park, located in Stone Forest

  • Kalama Helping Hand Food Bank, 191 Cloverdale Rd, Kalama

  • Columbia Terrace Estates, 5400 Meeker Drive, Kalama

These small book collections are for children and adults who love reading and sharing.
