Citizens of Kalama and the business owners in the downtown area are well aware of how much water can come off the hillsides when the City is hit with heavy rains. The flooding in December 2015 was devastating, and the City has been working, and continues to work, to find the answers to this long- standing problem in Kalama.

In December of 2015 the Kalama Police Department lost their facility to the flooding and based on code requirements for an emergency facility for the City could not relocate back to that location. The Department has been forced to operate out of a tiny corner of the Kalama Community Building that is less than 800? square feet. The current location has the officers working at desks nearly on top of one another, with no space for securing weapons, or for interviewing witnesses, complainants, and suspects in private.
