There is created a civil service commission for the police department of
the city, pursuant to and in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 13 Laws
of 1937 (RCW Chapter 41.12). All full-paid employment therein, and all
advancements, demotions, suspensions, discharges or control thereof and of the
members thereof, shall be under the control of and governed by civil service
rules prescribed in or adopted pursuant to said Chapter 13 as the same may have
been or may be amended before or after the effective date of the ordinance
codified in this chapter. (Ord. 598 § 1, 1977).
2.48.020 Organization.
There is created for the administration of such civil service for the
police department, a civil service commission composed of three members who
shall be appointed by the mayor of the city, subject to the approval of a
majority of the city council. The term of office of such civil service
commission shall be six years, except that the first three members of such
commission shall be appointed for different terms, as follows: one to serve for
a period of two years, one to serve for a period of four years and one to serve
for a period of six years. The respective terms for the first three members
shall be determined by lot. In the event any civil service commissioner resigns,
becomes disqualified or is removed for cause, another commissioner shall be
appointed to take his place for the unexpired portion of the term. (Ord. 598

2.48.030 State laws adopted by reference.
The ordinance codified in this chapter is adopted pursuant to Chapter 13
of the Session Laws of 1937 (RCW Chapter 41.12) and all of the provisions of
said Chapter 13. Three copies of the same are on file in the office of the city
clerk-treasurer, and are by this reference incorporated in this chapter and made
a part of this chapter. (Ord. 598 § 3, 1977).
