The City of Kalama recently celebrated its 125th Birthday - July 10, 11, and 12, 2015. There was a huge strawberry shortcake - a pageant on the history of Kalama - and a huge salmon feed at the Marine Park. The time capsule was sealed and won't be opened until 2065.
Many annual events occur through the year. Every July the town enjoys the Kalama Fair, with its parade, Fair Princesses, Queen Coronation, and 4H activities. The Kalama River-to-River Run/Walk is usually held just prior to the Kalama Fair.
In August, downtown Kalama is filled with with antique cars for the Untouchables Car Show. Previously the Kalama Blues Festival was held in August, but the event will not take place in 2016.
Halloween in Kalama is always a great safe event for those young trick-or-treaters. The main street is closed down for a couple hours so the ghostly creatures, super heroes, and princesses can safely go from one business to another to receive their trick or treat!
Mother's Day weekend the AMALAK ladies group puts on its annual flower and book sale. This is a very well-attended event and the prices are extremely reasonable. Make plans to arrive early for the best selections.
Not to be outdone, the Lions Club puts on a wonderful breakfast at the Community Building for Father's Day.
Speaking of the Lions Club, they also have monthly Bingo games at the Community Building.
Christmas arrives in Kalama around the first weekend in December. There are usually free photos with Santa for the kids and other activities to keep the excited youngsters busy. Of course there's the tree lighting ceremony in Toteff Park. The AMALAK ladies group sponsors either a Tour of Homes or another holiday event.
To experience the family feeling of our small town, join everyone up at the school for the Christmas Dinner. The meal is prepared by the AMALAK ladies group (yes, AMALAK is a very busy group). After dinner, Santa gives a gift to each of the youngsters, then we all sing Christmas carols together.
